What?! If you’ve been in sales any amount of time, you have no doubt heard the phrase “The Fortune is in the Follow Up”. I’m here to tell you that your opportunity is magnified more than your efforts simply because there are many out there who do NOT follow up.
Did you know….
48% of sales people NEVER follow up with a prospect
25% of sales people make a second contact and STOP
Only 10% of sales people make more than three contacts
Now look at these numbers and tell me where the fortune is…
2% of sales are made on the first contact
3% of sales are made on the second contact
5% of sales are made on the third contact
10% of sales are made on the fourth contact
80% of sales are made on the fifth to twelfth contact
If not even half of the sales people out there ever follow up with a prospect, can you see YOUR opportunity? And, as the sales process progresses, the commitment by the sales person diminishes. What if YOU stepped up and actually made that second call? What if you continued to follow-up on a regular basis? It is much EASIER to follow up with a current contact rather than start all over with a new prospect isn’t it? Take it one step further. If you not only followed up with your prospects and continued to meet new ones and followed up with them, you would be ten times ahead of the pack!
Take note that most people do NOT follow up. The fortune IS in the follow up AND the ‘NOT’ follow up of others.
